Discussion Questions:

Watch the past message, then choose questions to get your group thinking and create openness.

  1. What was something that stood out to you from this Sunday’s sermon? Share what you learned and how it will impact your life.

  2. Leviticus 25:47-49. According to this passage, what circumstances required a redeemer? In what ways can people today experience “bondage” or loss (spiritually, emotionally, financially), and how does that connect to our need for redemption?

  3. What qualifications were necessary for a kinsman-redeemer, and why was it important that he be closely related? How does this prepare us to understand Jesus’ role as Redeemer?

  4. Read Ruth 2:8–12, 15–16, 20. In what ways does Boaz exceed what the Law required, and what does this show about his character and the heart of God toward outsiders and the needy?

  5. Look at Ruth 3:9–13. Ruth asks Boaz to “spread his garment” over her, appealing for redemption. Why did Ruth have to make this request, and what does it reveal about her faith, courage, and trust in Boaz’s character??

  6. Read Ruth 4:1-10. The nearer redeemer declines due to personal cost. What was the cost that caused the first redeemer to refuse, and why was Boaz willing to accept it? What does this contrast reveal about sacrificial love?

  7. Boaz redeems at personal cost to restore Ruth and Naomi. How does Boaz’s role as redeemer point forward to Jesus? In what ways is Christ’s redemption similar—and greater?

  8. Read Ruth 1:21; Ruth 4:14. Naomi moves from emptiness to fullness through God’s provision. When have you experienced God bringing restoration in a season of loss, and how did it change your understanding of Him?

  9. Look at Ruth 4:14–17. Redemption restores Naomi’s family line and future. How does knowing that Jesus is your Redeemer reshape your identity, security, and hope for the future??

  10. What would it look like for you, and for this group to show “redemptive love” to someone in need this week, going beyond what is comfortable or required?
