There’s something for everyone…
Being engaged in church is more than just attending Sunday services. It is learning more about Jesus, building deep relationships, using your gifts in meaningful service and celebrating milestones. God has a great purpose for your life and we want to help you discover it.
What is Alpha?
Alpha is a series of interactive sessions exploring the basics of the Christian faith. Each session looks at a different question, and is designed to create conversation. There’s no pressure, no follow-up, and no charge; it’s just an open, informal, and honest space to explore and discuss life’s big questions together.
Whether it’s a groups of friends gathered around a kitchen table or a quick catch-up over coffee, food has a way of bringing people together. It’s no different at Alpha. All sessions start with food because it’s a great way to connect, relax, and build friendships.
The talks are designed to be engaging and inspire conversation. Usually around 30 minutes long, they explore the big issues around faith and unpack the basics of Christianity, addressing questions like “Who is Jesus?”, “Why and how do I pray?” and “How does God guide us?”
Probably the most important part of any Alpha: The chance to share thoughts and ideas about the talk without being corrected or judged. There’s no obligation to say anything; it’s an opportunity to hear from other and contribute your own perspective.

Why is membership so important?
• It is Biblical (Deuteronomy 6:5-6).
• It confirms your commitment to the local church.
• It assures a local church's leadership that you are committed to the mission, vision and values of the church and that you are willing to serve and assist in the fulfilling of them.
• It is essential for involvement in the leadership/ministries of the church.
• It is beneficial to the member.
• It provides protection for the community of faith.
We find that it is best if someone has been attending the church for at least six months before taking steps to become an official member. That way, you are feeling comfortable within our church family, and are better prepared to commit to our church community.
Here is some information to assist you with the membership process. According to PORTICO by-laws, the following must be completed in order to become and official member:
• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Must have been baptized in water (full immersion).
• Complete and submit a membership application.
• Attend a membership class (scheduled 3-4 times per year).

+ Water Baptism
There is no greater life journey than one taken with Jesus Christ. A decision to follow Christ is a declaration to the world that you belong to Him and live for Him. Water baptism by immersion is a public declaration of your faith in Christ's death, burial and resurrection. It is also an outward sign that you have been joined to the body of Christ and the global faith community.c
PORTICO's entire congregation joins in worship to God and celebration when a member is baptized. Water baptism services are held at various times throughout the year.
