PORTICO Community Church is a Christian church, incorporated as a registered Canadian not-for-profit charity, affiliated with the Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada (PAOC), serving the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) with campuses located in Mississauga and Milton.
PORTICO's Senior Pastor, elected by the official members, reports to the Board of Elders on vision, direction, ministry and church operations. The Senior Pastor is empowered and monitored through policy governance for the hiring, management and care of all ministry staff and for the oversight of ministries, facilities and operational matters.

KIDS MINISTRIES FACILITATOR
Reporting to the Senior Associate Pastor, the role of the Kids Ministries Facilitator is to provide operational, administrative, and program support to ensure the effective delivery of Kids Ministries programming at the Mississauga Campus. The Kids Ministries Facilitator is a person who can understand the big picture but whose heart is in the details, who knows what needs to be done and can recruit, train, equip and inspire others to serve into the vision.
The Kids Ministries Facilitator will have a firm grasp on the church’s mission, vision and strategy, andworking in harmony with the pastoral team and ministry staff, will equip leaders and ministry partners to carry out PORTICO’S ENDs. To accomplish the expectations of this role, their emphasis will be given to building robust systems of relational and spiritual trust amongst all staff, ministry partners and church attendees, in order to ensure that the church is healthy, vibrant, and growing.
This role necessitates a leadership style that is servant-hearted and characterized by Christ-like attitudes. The leader must embrace a passion for individual spiritual development, exercise open and honest communication, be intentional in committing to initiating reconciliation & restoration when in disagreements, and express and maintain loyalty, confidentiality & support of the church leadership. Strong administrative and operational skills and experience, as well as a thorough understanding and commitment to working in a large church, multi-staff setting, will be critical for success in this role.
The Kids Ministries Facilitator will be directly supervised by the Senior Associate Pastor, which includes but is not limited to: leadership support, goal setting, performance evaluation, mentoring, and training.
KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY
Operational Planning and Support
Meet once a week to plan and prepare for Kids Ministries Sunday morning program at the Mississauga Campus.
Meet once a week with your supervisor.
Ensure weekly coordination and preparedness of the Bin Prep team through communication to support weekly Kids Ministries programs.
Upload curriculum and ProPresenter for both Sundays and Thursday GROW. Upload Ministry Partner schedules to Planning Centre for Sunday Mornings.
Provide Kids Ministries administrative support including, but not limited to, coordinating and purchasing supplies for Sunday morning and Thursday night programs, following up on Parental Consent Forms and coordinating first time family bags.
Sunday Morning, Kids GROW Nights and Special Events
Support the delivery of the Sunday morning Kids Ministries program.
Support the planning and delivery of a Thursday night program for Kids Ministries at the Mississauga Campus. Work with members of Portico's Grow ministries to establish mid-week and/or online discipleship materials for kids. This can include classes, songs, activities, or lessons.
Ensure ProPresenter Media in all classrooms, as well as iPads and label printers for Check in, and ensure all Ministry Partners are in place.
Kids Ministries Event Support
Support Kids Ministries event planning. Collaborate with event leads and volunteers to ensure readiness and smooth execution.
Support Kids Ministries Summer Camp and related activities.
Accountability for CONNECT Dials:
Weekly Attendance and Special Needs Kids Engagement: Support the tracking of weekly attendance for Kids Ministries Sunday mornings, Mid-weeknights, summer programming and special events. Analyze trends and develop strategies to increase engagement among kids.
Newcomer Integration: Support connection with new kids and their families to welcome them into the Kids Ministries community. Develop follow-up pathways in collaboration with your supervisor to nurture their integration into programs and small groups. Document these connections and evaluate effectiveness regularly.
Spiritual Formation: Ensure teaching and programming tailored for children effectively fosters spiritual formation, equipping students to understand and apply biblical principles. Including a focus on foundational doctrines, personal faith development, and the importance of saying Yes to Jesus, Water Baptism, Growth Group participation and Serving.
Goal Monitoring and Reporting: Support the Associate Pastor of Worship Arts & CONNECT, to track and report on CONNECT-related metrics, including attendance, newcomer follow up, and spiritual formation milestones (I Said Yes to Jesus and Water Baptism). Provide updates to your supervisor with actionable insights and recommendations for improvement.
Accountability for GROW Dials:
Discipleship Training and Engagement: Support the implementation and monitoring of an intentional discipleship model tailored to kids, ensuring kids are growing in their faith and understanding of spiritual disciplines. Collaborate with the Associate Pastor of GROW, to provide age-appropriate materials and activities that encourage spiritual growth. Equipping kids to identify and operate in their spiritual gifts through mentorship and hands-on ministry opportunities. Teach kids how to share their faith with peers through practical tools.
Resource Development: Collaborate with the Associate Pastor of GROW, to develop and provide access to resources for spiritual growth, such as study guides, devotionals, and curated RightNow Media content for families of children. Track engagement with these resources to ensure they are accessible and inclusive and effectively meet the needs of kids and their families.
Goal Monitoring and Reporting: Collaborate with the Associate Pastor of GROW, to track and report on GROW metrics, such as discipleship resource usage, pastoral care, counseling sessions and prayer requests. Share updates with your supervisor, highlighting successes and addressing gaps.
Accountability for SERVE Dials:
Ministry Partner Recruitment, Training and Retention: Recruit, train, and retain Ministry Partners (volunteers) for the Kids Ministries team that serve on Sunday mornings, Mid-week nights, summer programming, special events, ensuring adequate support for programs and events.
Risk Management Compliance: Ensure the Kids Ministry Partners team comply with Plan to Protect policies, including proper documentation for events, attendance, and communication with minors.
Goal Monitoring and Reporting: Collaborate with the Associate Pastor of SERVE, to track and report on SERVE-related metrics, including number of new special needs ministry partners and total number of existing special needs ministry partners. Provide regular updates to your supervisor with recommendations to strengthen volunteer involvement and outreach initiatives
LEADERSHIP EXPECTATIONS
As a member of PORTICO’s staff, this role requires that you personally embrace, actively promote and support PORTICO’s mission, vision, core values and Ends within all expressions of the church community.
This position is often involved in sensitive situations, and the individual may become aware of privileged information requiring sound judgment and discretion. Strict confidentiality must be maintained when dealing with the elder board, pastoral or congregational-related issues. A violation of confidentiality is grounds for immediate dismissal.
LEADERSHIP COMPETENCIES
Degree or coursework in Child Development, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field, providing foundational knowledge of developmental and behavioral challenges in children.
2-4 years of experience working directly with children, including those with behavioral and special needs, in educational or ministry settings.
Familiarity with emerging trends in Kids ministry and special needs education to ensure that programs remain relevant and impactful.
Strong competency in developing, implementing, and evaluating curriculum and activities designed specifically for children with diverse needs.
Strong leadership skills in managing ministry partner teams, with a focus on training and equipping ministry partners to work with children with behavioral and special needs.
Adept in handling crisis situations or behavioral challenges in a calm and effective manner, ensuring the safety and well-being of all children.
Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to mediate conflicts and de-escalate difficult situations involving children.
Ability to quickly adapt to unexpected changes in the ministry environment and provide guidance to the team in those moments.
Ability to evaluate program success through metrics, feedback, and observation, continuously improving the ministry experience.
Strong interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to engage children, parents, and ministry partners effectively.
Demonstrate a thorough understanding and commitment to working in a large church, multi-staff setting
