Weekly Reflection
Responding to God’s invitation.
At the very beginning of Luke’s Gospel, we’re invited to reflect on how we respond when God moves in our lives. What stands out immediately is that God chooses ordinary people – Mary, Zechariah, shepherds – to carry out extraordinary purposes. Mary’s response captures the posture God desires:
“I am the Lord’s servant. May everything you have said about me come true.” Luke 1:38
She didn’t have all the answers, but she had trust. It raises a question: are you willing to say “YES” to God, even when His plan feels uncertain?
As Jesus enters the world in Luke 2, His humility is unmistakable. The Saviour of the world is born not in power or prestige, but in a lowly stable. God’s way often looks small and hidden, yet it carries eternal significance. This challenges how we define success and importance. Are you willing to embrace humility and trust that God is working even in the unseen places of our lives?
Luke 3 shifts to preparation. John the Baptist calls people to repentance – not just through words, but through changed lives. Real faith produces real transformation.
Then in Luke 4, Jesus faces temptation in the wilderness and responds with unwavering dependence on God’s Word. Shortly after, He declares His mission:
“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, for he has anointed me to bring Good News to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim that captives will be released, that the blind will see, that the oppressed will be set free...” Luke 4:18
These chapters remind us that God is moving – inviting us to surrender, walk in humility, turn from sin, and stand firm in truth. The question is not whether God is at work, but whether we are ready to respond.
