Weekly Reflection

The Cost and Call of Discipleship.

Luke 13–16 confronts us with the reality that our choices carry eternal weight. Throughout these chapters, Jesus challenges comfortable religion and calls for genuine transformation. He makes it clear that following Him is not about appearances, but about a heart that is responsive, humble, and aligned with God’s purposes.

In Luke 13, Jesus emphasizes that the door to the Kingdom is narrow and that the time to respond is now. There is a clear sense of urgency – faith is not something to delay. This continues in Luke 14, where Jesus teaches about humility, warning against seeking status and comfort. Instead, He makes it clear that discipleship requires full commitment, not partial devotion.

Luke 15 then reveals the heart of God in a powerful way. Through the parables of the lost sheep, lost coin, and lost son, we see a Father who actively seeks, joyfully restores, and fully welcomes those who return to Him.

“We had to celebrate this happy day. For your brother was dead and has come back to life! He was lost, but now he is found!” Luke 15:32

This reminds us that no one is beyond God’s grace, and heaven rejoices over every repentant heart.

In Luke 16, Jesus shifts the focus to stewardship and eternity. He teaches that how we handle what we’ve been given – especially money and resources – reveals where our true allegiance lies. Our everyday decisions reflect our deeper values.

“If you are faithful in little things, you will be faithful in large ones.” Luke 16:10

Together, these chapters call us to live with urgency, humility, gratitude, and eternal perspective. Jesus is inviting us not just to believe, but to respond – to live in a way that reflects His heart and His Kingdom.
