Pastor Hana’s Weekly Reflection

  • In what areas of your life do you need to trust God’s provision, even when the path requires great sacrifice?

Obedience to God always leads to life, growth, and blessing.

Think about the hardest decision you’ve ever had to make; something that stretched you, scared you, or didn’t make sense in the moment.

For some, it might have been moving to a new school or stepping away from a friend group. For others, it might have been choosing a career path, deciding to end a relationship, or taking a new job that meant uprooting your family.

No matter our age or stage of life, we all face moments like this. Moments where saying “yes” or “no” feels costly. Moments that force us to step into the unknown without all the answers. And those moments are tough, because they push us to trust, not in what we can see, but in the One who’s leading us.

That’s exactly the place Abraham found himself in Genesis 22. God asked him to do something that seemed impossible: offer up his son Isaac, the very one God had promised him. It didn’t make sense, it was incredibly painful, and it would have been easier to say “no.” But Abraham chose obedience anyway.

This is one of the most difficult and shocking moments in Abraham’s story. God asked him to sacrifice Isaac, the son Abraham had waited decades for, the miracle child God Himself had promised.

It didn’t make sense. It felt impossible. And yet Abraham obeyed. Why? Because his trust in God was deeper than his need to understand every detail.

This passage reminds us that obedience isn’t always easy. Sometimes following God means giving up control, comfort, or even things we deeply treasure. Obedience doesn’t always line up with what feels good, but it always lines up with God’s greater plan.

In the end, God provided a ram in place of Isaac. Abraham’s faith was tested, but it revealed something powerful: when we hold nothing back from God, He provides exactly what we need.

God may not ask us to make sacrifices as extreme as Abraham’s, but He will call us to trust Him in hard things. It might mean stepping out in faith to serve when you feel unprepared, choosing honesty when lying would be easier, or letting go of habits that keep you from Him.

The challenge is this: Will you obey even when it costs you something?
